On Becoming

Baby Alpaca turtleneckSometimes you just have to start over. And over. And over, again. This was the case of the Blue Sky Alpaca and the "design-as-you-go" gone wrong.

Instead of trying to take 550 yards of yarn and turn it into something for myself (a collar and matching gloves, a collar with sleeves), I decided to use this to make a sleeveless turtleneck top for a much smaller friend - just in time for my visit with her in San Francisco next weekend.

There was some design-as-you-go with this, but I am confident that, this time, the outcome will be a positive one. Instead of trying to cram too many features into the design, I've opted for a simple alternating eyelet pattern that forms a diamond shape when knitted up.

I have something interesting in mind for the neck ribbing, so stay tuned.

Looks lovely, and yummy alpaca is definitely something to showcase with a simple pattern. Looking forward to seeing the end result...
