The Thrill Of Victory (Hopefully)!
Yep. I done did it, along with scores of other knitters in bloglandia. I have entered the Knitting Olympics, as conceived by La Harlot earlier this week. The challenge I have chosen should have been socks, but the rules say you can't have started the project already. No casting on until the February opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in Torino. So I chose (ta-da!) lace knitting with beads as my event, primarily because it fit right in with my 2006 knitting advancement plan. Though the contest is well-timed, I'm a little nervous about competing. Bad memories of the Spring Track & Field events in grammar school. (Cue memory fog): Here I am, a chubby, leggy 11 year old, standing at the starting line of the 50 yard dash. My head said, "Fast start. Keep running." My head wanted the knobby legs to whirl like spinning wheels down the track, which seemed to stretch on to the horizon. A fair start, but somewhere half-way down the course, my top half out-distanced my bottom half and I landed face down on the track, embarrassed and crying as my school mates laughed at my complete, unadulterated failure. It was clear that I was NOT destined for greatness in the arena of sport.
It is with great expectations that I embark on this mission, though. Failure is not an option. That means practice (and bead buying) is imperative:

Update: I forgot to mention what item I'd be attempting to knit. Right now, I'm thinking it'll be 'Patagonia Night Sky' scarf by Lily Chin from the book "Knit and Crochet With Beads". Also under consideration is Heartstrings "Beaded Lace Scarf II"

Good luck in the Olympics. I'll be entering the cabled sweater event with Samus.
Are you crocheting on your beads or stringing them? I find the crochet method much easier!! If you need more info on the crochet method just ask! Good luck with whatever method you choose!
knitting with beads is fun! good luck on the olympics!
wow! serious props for picking lace AND bead projects. I feel like such a blog loser for not doing the olympics, but...
The heartstrings pattern looks REALLY cool.
Good luck!
Just received the Heartstrings pattern, along with 2,500 beads. I can hardly wait!
