An Unlikely Duo

Almost as an afterthought, I included a background shot of this new project I'd recently started -- mostly done as my portable knitting, since I found that trying to bead, count rows and shift my lace pattern accordingly was not working out very well on the bus or at Knit Club. Tinking and the loss of small glass beads ensued.
When I was in the market check-out line, I spotted a lone knitting magazine amid the racks of Cosmo, Lucky, InStyle and Glamour. After a quick flip, I threw in on the conveyor belt with the rest of the groceries.
I'd never heard of "Knit It!" and despite an overload of Lion Brand knits, there are some interesting items. One that caught my eye is the mossy green v-neck sweater pictured above. Mostly, I was inspired by the cable ribbing because I'd just come into possession of a bit of Michelle's handspun alpaca and I thought it would be a luxurious jumping off point.
As I explained in a previous post, I wanted something to complement the colors in the alpaca that would also mimic the look of the inspiration piece without being a slavish copy. Thus the Rowan tweed (with absolutely no flecks of pink in sight) and the Debbie Bliss cotton / angora were wed to the brief border of alpaca handspun.
The most frequent comment from other knitters? "I would've never thought to put those colors together!"

thanks for the close-up. I couldn't tell from your last post what the colors looked like, but you're absolutely rihgt... they're gorgeous together! Love that rowan tweed color as well, so very springy!
I beileve that "Knit It!" is a Lion Brand magazine, hence the abundance of Lion Brand knits. If you go to their website for patterns you'll see some bring you to the "Knit It!" area, etc. I don't think I've ever actually seen an issue of the magazine, but I don't often go near magazine racks.
Beautiful color combinations by the way!
It is a great color combo. I like it a lot! Knit It! can be good, can be bad. I used to like it when it first came out, but I haven't looked at it in a couple of years. I do like the sweater you've picked out though.
I never would have thought it but those colors are smashing together! Well done!
I love those colours together. I have plans to do something simliar. A soft ferny green with lavendar trim. The colours I found on the web don't quite match the live ones, the photo I took of the yarn is close to life. I think I have that issues, because that sweater looks very familiar. It didn't inspire me, but looking at your start is leaving me to rethink my view of the sweater.
