Stitches Midwest Strikes Again
Sigh. I thought I'd gotten the hang of things this time around.
The plan was to ONLY go to the vendors whose booths had been highlighted on the floorplan, thereby avoiding that naughty she-devil, Temptation. Right. Who was I kidding? In the 1.5 hours between the morning and afternoon sessions of my Vintage Sock Knitting class with (squee) Nancy Bush, I managed to put a dent in the money supply. What liquid assets? Pictures of the Noro Silk Garden, Brooks Farm kid mohair and Shelridge Farms heathered sock yarn will be forthcoming. Until then, I'll dazzle you with a couple of the stars I spied during my first day at the knit-stravaganza known as Stitches.
First up are the two Nancys - Marchant (left) and Bush (right). Vintage socks? Estonian lace? Knitting on the Road? You know Nancy Bush. I snapped this pic just as Ms. Marchant, also known as the "Queen of Brioche," stopped by for lunch with her friend, Ms. Bush.

Then there's talented and unassuming Franklin Habit. People were stopping him left and right on the market floor. I think he is a bit surprised at his growing celebrity. Ever gracious, he bade me to be in the picture with him instead of standing alone. Sweet man. Turns out his friend Jon (who came in from Colorado) and I were taking the same sock knitting class. Small knitting world.

Back in class, I turned a Welsh heel and knit a French toe. I love learning new stuff. Especially unique, time-tested techniques with a modern twist. Despite having feet that swelled up to the size of footballs, spending gobs of dough, and navigating my way through a fibery OZ on caffeine alone, I gotta say that, for me, Stitches rocks! All you have to do is avoid the opening night fashion show and the over-priced consession stand and it's all good.
Back for more tomorrow.

Stitches must have been a lot of fun - you look absolutely radiant in the picture with your new friend. Was the sock knitting class the Nancy Bush class?
I was the short woman with the lavender polo shirt and glasses who was also excited to get my picture taken with Franklin. Stitches was an amazing experience; I loved my first glimpse of Chicago; and I am very glad to have met you!!
