What About Your Friends?

What about your friends? Will they let you down again?
What about your friends? Are they gonna be low down?
Will they ever be around or will they turn their backs on you. (TLC, 1992)

Debi and I have never met. We've exchanged emails a-plenty since a devastating Florida hurricane last year and only recently spoke by phone for the first time. Even so, I am still privileged to call her my friend. Her thoughtfulness and nimble fingers decided to send me some wonderful gifts, which I picked up from the post office today:

Debi's goodies
Yes, those are custom-made socks (squee!) from Mountain Colors Weavers Wool in Huckleberry and Deep Blue, a little silvery cat frame to hold a memento of Madame Sylvia, and some soothing scented floating candles. I love those socks so much that I'm sitting here writing this in a sleeveless flowered cotton dress, wearing wool socks on a day in Chicago when the weatherman says the temps will climb back to 90 degrees.

This isn't so much about the beautiful socks or the other goodies, though. It's a big, sloppy "thank you" to my friends who know I'd never turn my back on them.
