Yarn Is...What I Got
With apologies to Sublime, a skein of yarn is exactly what I got in my mailbox today. Yawn. More yarn for you. Well, ya know I always tell you if the yarn is something special, and this is.
Scout dyed up a special colorway in honor of The Harlot's recent visit to Albuquerque. It was so lovely, I bought one skein of the 100% superfine merino called "Harlot's Mums" straight away. Sorry, but my pictures don't do the interplay of the green, burgundy, gold and brown proper justice. Neither can a photo capture the softness and texture of this beautiful yarn. These are destined to be a fine pair of socks for someone. Not Niki, though. As soon as I put the skein atop my "Yarnaholics" mug, little Mister just had to scoot in to check out the latest acquisition. I know you want a close-up of that yarn, too.
While I await the arrival of the perfect orange creamsicle yarn to knit up Theresa's Dragon Socks, I decided to get a move on Ann Budd's Diagonal Rib Socks (Interweave Knits, Winter 2004).
I'm finally using the Lorna's Laces "Motherlode" that traveled to Amsterdam with me in late April. What took so long? Apparently, this yarn was waiting for just the right textured pattern to show of these lovely fall colors.
And what took me so long? I 'spose I was waiting for a day off from work and plus a Midwestern heat wave to justify simply sitting and knitting.

I really like this pattern stitch -- where is it from? Itmight inspire me to make another pair of socks....or not! But at least it is getting me to think about it.
