We Interrupt This...

A. Baby kimono

B. Friend's post surgery scarf

C. Mom's surprise sweater

for a pair of bed socks. Why jump the WIP line with these? Because an old friend is about to have surgery and will be home for a while recovering. What keeps you toastier than a pair of handknit socks, I ask you?

The particulars: I used one 280 yard skein of Hill Country's Instant Gratification Sock Yarn in the Autumn Leaves colorway with the Cable Twist pattern, which is freely available from Hello Yarn.

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Accordingly, I made the same heel modification that Grumperina made -- that of the Eye of Partridge (my first!) instead of the purlwise slip stitch called for in the pattern. Otherwise, it was an easy-peasy knit, as written.

Le sigh. I keep seeing sweaters, caps and socks I'd like to make for myself. Maybe I should include some "me" knitting time as one of next year's resolutions? Prolly. But I do like seeing the enjoyment others derive from the stuff I make.

What a gorgeous sock. The colour of the yarn really makes it pop.

And those socks are for such a great cause! I'm sure your friend will recoup so much better with toasty hand knit socks! But I think everyone needs at least one project going on for themselves to relish in.

As much as I loooved the eye of partridge heel when I saw it on Grumperina's site, I am glad that I frogged mine and sent the cables down the heel. I love how those turned out in that yarn - I have been hording some Hill Country yarn, and I might just have to make yet another pair!
