Thus spoke the latest orthopedic specialist after he shot my right shoulder full of a strong painkiller and anti-inflammatory drug. Did I listen? Nope. Especially after a dear friend sent my kitty boys some new food, accompanied by two balls of Diakeito Diamusee Fine*. After all, I needed the perfect yarn to go with the perfect lace needles to start my first official shawl, the pattern for which I'd purchased the day before.

This is so easy, even I can do it. Good thing too because I've got a raft of increasingly more complex shawl and wrap patterns waiting in the wings. I just have to get one completed lace project under my belt (something larger than a pair of socks) to feel competent enough to go forth and conquer the rest of the diaphanous pretties.
Oh, and the arm thing is more complicated than any of us first thought, with no clear choices and equally uncertain outcomes. One of these days, I'll look back on this and smile triumphantly. I'm sure of it.
*Edited to add info about Diakeito Diamusee Fine yarn:
Content: 100% Wool
Size: 40g/239 yards
Gauge: 30-32 sts/4" using needle #2US (I'm using size 6 for this shawl)
Care: hand wash, dry flat
Although it is made in Japan like its cousin Noro, Diakeito is much softer than Kureyon or Silk Garden. It also appears to also have less vegetable matter and (so far) no knots!

Ooh! Pretty! I've been wanting to make a shawl or wrap for some time now. I just haven't found a pattern that feels right.
You'd better take it easy though...rest for at least a few hours, please.
do take care to rest the arm. That is a pretty pattern though and the yarn is lovely.

Eek! Take care of yourself! But I can see why you couldn't wait to cast on and get knitting. That is some gorgeous yarn and it's looking fabulous in that pattern.
That is GORGEOUS yarn, must start my Forest Canopy TONIGHT! The yarn is wound and everything...No, nothing ends up to be as simple as it seems. Try to take as much of the Drs. advise as you can handle, my friend.

Oh, wow, that is gorgeous! If I ever see any of that yarn, I'll have to give it a whirl. I know everyone loves Noro, but I've just never warmed up to it - I think the texture is a big turn off to me.
Ooooooh, very pretty, Karen. I've used Noro. Loved the colors, but that's about all I loved about it. Hope this *cousin* is a great experience for you.

I must admit that was the *perfect* gift because the pattern and the yarn are stunning together but STEP AWAY FROM THE KNITTING AND REST!!!!!!

I just bought four skeins of that yarn in another color. I love the shawl pattern you've chosen. Are you knitting the pattern to the instructions and will two balls of the diakeito be enough to complete it? I'd love to think I could get two somethings out of the four skeins I bought.
Oh, I love the color of the yarn for your shawl. I just finished my Forest Canopy Shoulder shawl about a week ago. It was my first "bigger" lace project. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
