The Herd Instinct

I don't know what possessed me. I must've gotten caught up in the enthusiastic swells surrounding the desire to knit a sweater along with other Ravelry Loopy Groupies. The easy part of the deal was the choice of yarn: Dream In Color. I selected "Nightwatch" in the worsted weight, Classy. For some reason, the yarn photographed several shades lighter than it actually is. My camera is being futzy on auto, I suppose.

Ah, but which sweater to knit? Originally, there was to be a list and then a vote selecting the sweaters to choose from. But that was too much pressure, considering that group members taste and needs vary as widely as the Grand Canyon. Besides, there are literally hundreds of patterns in the Ravelry library alone, making the winnowing process nearly impossible.

So far, it looks like I'm the only one knitting Laura Chau's Lucy In The Sky cardigan. It's basically knit in one piece, with a simple diamond patterned body that won't fight with the light variegation that Dream In Color is known for. The sweater fits close to the body and is sized up to a 50" bust. I looked through the various versions of the cardigan on Ravelry and it seems to work on a variety of body types - including those on the fluffier side like me.

In the end, the sensible ties that bind us in this KAL are the yarn and the June completion date. What do we get for our trouble? At the very least, a new sweater and, quite possibly, a whole bunch of Loopy Ewe loot should we win the randomly selected grand prize. Keep those hooves crossed for me. Baa.

I've seen a lot of successful "fluffy" versions of Mr. GreenJeans on Ravelry, too.

I like the Lucy in the Sky cardigan! Hmmm... maybe the Knitting Pure and Simple V-Neck fitted cardi? That's another one that's pretty flattering.

That Lucy in the Sky is in my list as is Mr. GreanJeans. Oh, do I join or do I not join....I am such a lemming and I haven't started my sweater yet.

Beautiful yarn (loving the color), and that sweater has caught my eye too--a very simple yet elegant pattern. Can't wait to see what you choose!

Gorgeous yarn and pretty sweater. My camera has a hard time photographing blues too. It's a conspiracy I tell ya.

I had two sweater's worth of Classy in my shopping cart at Loopy, Cloud Jungle and Cocoa Something, but decided to wait until after Madrona to actually buy it.

Then before I got back there Sheri does this KAL and my yarn is gone. I'll have to jump right on it when she restocks next month.

That sweater does look like a good fit for the yarn. I've knit a pair of socks from Classy in November Muse and I really like the yarn. I should do a sweater in that color, too. Or maybe China Apple.

Of course, all of them are out of stock now.

That's a good marriage of yarn/pattern. I look forward to seeing your progress.

Mmmm, Classy. How can you go wrong? As for the sweater, it's so hard to narrow down a choice, but I've been wanting to try one of Laura's designs for a while, so LSD is a good choice!

Lucy in the Sky is a cardigan that I plan to knit, hopefully this next winter. I have some Araucania Nature Wool in a pretty silvery grey, which I think that the variegation in the yarn will work well with the pattern too. I'm pleased to see someone I "know" knitting it. Can't wait to see yours.

really like the yarn and the pattern. I'm fluffier than a 50 so it is hard to find something to knit that won't make me look larger. I still can't get over giving up on the lace! LOL
